Musings on writing activities

Last Saturday, we had our writer’s meetup on the topic of dialog. I try to incorporate some sort of activity for the group. This week, each person wrote a sentence of dialog (not adding any tags), and then passes this to the person to the right. The next person adds to that dialog.

Hilarity ensued!

You see, my group has a number of styles as well as genres. Some members are downright snarky. So when the papers got passed, writing became strange, mixed, and absurd.

Its so neat reading all the different styles. We’ve done something similar in storymaking, where the sentences create a short story where the original author started then had to finish the weirdness. It’s a wonderful exercise in creativity. You can do this with small groups or even just two people.

What writing exercises do you most enjoy? Post in the comments below.
